hi Vizion,
I am a novice when it comes to 'hacking' for this plugin but i REALLY need it.
Sorry, this bridge might not be the adequate solution for you. There is much "easier" alternatives (hint: fireboard)
BUT at root[..] you can tell there's a lot of items missing
This seems a problem not related to the bridge at all.
Probably your joomla's template , doesn't display left column.

hi mehdi,

back for some more questions;
1. what was it about after modding joomla with your bridge; something about users having to log in to joomla first to assure they can login in under the same name on the forum?
2. what about the templates? I mean, I'd like to have the forum in a different browser window, but with the same skin as my joomla portal, is this possible and how?

hi dubstepdotnl,
1. what was it about after modding joomla with your bridge; something about users having to log in to joomla first to assure they can login in under the same name on the forum?
it is not required to mod joomla at all for the bridge to work, unless you need particular stuff .
After bridging , you can only login to the forum under joomla.
But username can be different in the forum, if user modify it's name in phpbb's profile after bridging....
2. what about the templates? I mean, I'd like to have the forum in a different browser window, but with the same skin as my joomla portal, is this possible and how?
you mean , you are not looking to see the content of phpbb inside the template of joomla (visual integration);
but what you are looking is your phpbb template stylized the same way as your joomla template?
If it's that, that can't be done automatically.

i see.
so it would be a good idea to have the option of users changing their name off at all times.

if i would visually integrate the forum into joomla, how would it look? are there any examples that ive missed?

Has there been any integration with phpBB3 since it's now gone RC1?

I've seen a website with the search function broken just because they switched to rc1. So rc1 is different to stable .
I'm not available to wrok on this yet + will work on this only when stable released.

I have installed the bridge on a system with Joomla1.0.12 and PBPBB2.0.22. After getting past a little trouble with users in the two systems have the same email address, it's working. I have a couple of questions:

1. When I log in on PHPBB, it takes you to the Joomla login page. After the user is authenticated, it leaves you in Joomla, and does not take you back to PHPBB. Is that right?

2. I seem to have a problem logging out. I get an "invalid_session" error message, cannot successful log out.

Thanks for any ideas.

hi EnergyAdept
1- right
2- perhaps a table corrupted in your database, I don't know.

EDIT:
not exactely for 1. If you mean by login , clicking on the login link of phpbb then yes.
If you mean using the loging form that appears on phpbb homepage, then this one should be removed, as this one does nothing once
the bridge installed

Thanks Mehdi,

I have also started looking at Fireboard. I am weighing how much I have invested in PHPBB, vs. a new start in Fireboard.
Anyone have a thought on that?

I suggest you perform a local install, and compare ...
Depend on which feature you are interested, if you already have an existing board ...
Phpbb's bridge is pretty easy to uninstall: just restore original files, so you can always try.
If your phpbb is modded, then this might a little harder to install the bridge (have to read the whole hack section).

I would HIGHLY suggest NOT using Fireboard!

I am glad my site is still in Beta because I'm ripping out Fireboard and using PHPBB as my solution. I should have done this from the get-go. Fireboard is buggy and doesn't seem to integrate into Community Builder all to well.

If you're still interested in it... do what Mehdi suggested and do a local install and test it...

I've used PHPBB for many many sites and thought I'd try something new, but I unfortunately have paid the price on that one! I just installed PHPBB on my server and am here to get the integrator. That's how I ran into this thread.

Sorry for cross-posting this, but I tried posting it in the "Components"-forum - guess this is the place..

I have some problems after installing the bridge.

I have a forum, with the phpBB-component from vanDongen installed.
I'm forced to upgrade my forum, as that component have startet do act up.

When I install phbBB2, and the Bridge from Mehdi - the login-form from VanDongen takes control, even though I've tried to un-install the login-module and the phpbbComponent from van Dongen...

Anyone have any idea ??

I've replaced all joomla-files with the Joomla 0.12-files (not reinstall, just replaced files with ftp), but nothing helps...

To explain further:

My old forum was the phpBB-component from vanDongen.
When I link to it in the menu, the url is something like this. /components/com_forum/... and so on.

When I uninstall, I get "failed", but phpbb-component from Dongen disappears from the component list.

When I then install the Mehdi-bridge, and link to it from the forum, the login works out like planned.
I get returned from the forum to a login-thing.
The log in goes directly to Joomla, and works great. When I then click the new link to the new forum, I get redirected to the remnants of the OLD forum... with the /components/com_forum/ link...

I guess the Dongen-component must alter something in the core files? But I've replaced all files with my re-install of Joomla?. Are there perhaps any files extra placed somewhere by the component?

Sorry I never played a lot with that component. Check if you don't have any mabot installed that affect the standard behavior of joomla.
Try to get a first clean phpbb install i.e not working bridged or as a componet (well the official).
Then only after think to bridge.

Thanks for your reply :) It is deeply appreciated, belive me :)

A clean install of both joomla and phpbb works great, bridging altso works great.
But when I import all the old info to the database, from my old site (I'm doing all this on a test-server) - the things start happening like described over...
If I had hair I would be pulling out by the root by now ;)

in the database used by phpbb, there's a table called "phpbb_config".
This is a bit silly, but some informations such like the script path is stored there.
Just check the entries there (especially "script_path" ).

good luck

hi rapdopod,
when I go to:
http://www.prithvee.radopod.com/forums/ ... engine.php
I get a 404 error.
So you probably didn't copy the files joomphpbb_engine.php & joomphpbb_conf.php in forum's root.

good luck

Oh yes! There it is!
Uhm... what should I replace the "com_forum" in script path with... I never checked what was in that field before I replaced the forum.

I've seen one other reference to this error, but no responses on a possible fix (http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,160637.0.html).

The behavior is when a logged out user attempts to access the forums. The redirect to the login page is coming up with a malformed URL.

To reproduce:
Go to http://www.ebonshield.com
Do not register, just go to the Forum (works for anyone not logged in)
Click on any forum catagory.

You get redirected to http://www.ebonshield.com/phpBB2/www.ebonshield.com/index.php?option=com_login&Itemid=88888888

The correct URL would be http://www.ebonshield.com/index.php?opt ... d=88888888

I have "www.ebonshield.com" specified as the site name in Joomla, phpBB, and the joomphpbb_conf.php file.
I am using the hacked subSilver template that came with the download.

Does anyone else get this behavior or know of a fix?

hi gramalkin,
joomphpbb_conf.php file
you should have
$joomUrl="http://www.ebonshield.com";
must begin by http.
If it doesn't fix your problem,
provide me full content of your configuration file.

2. install bridge. "com_phpbb.zip" into joomla components
3. overwrite the file 26 files from the zip file hackedfiles folder into phpbb Forum root folders.13 file overwrites.ok
4. edit joomphpbb_conf.php
  $joomUrl: http://www.abc.com
  $joomRel: /forum/ < ?? i m lost here i guess. cause the error is
" Unable to switch to Joomla dir Is the provided relative path correct ?

5. Copy files joomphpbb_conf.php (previously edited) and joomphpbb_engine.php in your forum's root folder ?

hi tsr,
sorry for late answer.
4) incorrect :
you must provide relative path from forum to joomla , not contrary.

5) "forum's root folder " is clear for me.
Everything is in one server, why would I need to precise forum then ?

Is this compatible with PHPbb 3 at all or do you have a bridge for that. The new phpbb3 has the sub forum that I need. I can not do any of the hard moddings.

No & No .
Don't ask me when phpbb 3 will be supported, cause you won't have an useful answer.

7 August 2007
Notice about Joomla 1.0.13: Despites the new "salted passwords" introduced by Joomla 1.0.13 , the bridge works fine. However, if you plan to unbridge, it won't be as easy as before. Users added to phpbb after bridging (and only these ones) , will end up with "salted paswords" stored in phpbb's "user table"...

Added a minor fix, concerning "visual integration"...

thank you for the unbridging input as well too. I guess I have to learn how to mod the subforum since they have it.

Ok I installed this bridge on my husband's site the same way I did on mine. It ain't working.

I can see the forum with the bridge, but it is telling me that I have incorrect username/password. What is up with that. lol It is a fresh install. I have 171 members in Joomla. But it is not reading the admins username or password.

http://www.isaacshavenshop.com/cc, the forum is on the top tab

Hi!

Geez I had this bridge working 2 months ago and had to nuke my home directory and ofcourse the backup isn't working. Angry

Anyway, temp site is http://www.bumptago.com. Forums located in /forums directory.

live site url is http://www.bumptago.com
relative path is ../ (or whatever the default was)

Jom config file - is http://www.bumtago.com

site name in sql database table is http://www.bumptago.com

I register a new name through Joomla.

Once I do that a login with new username and click the forums link - I either can't log into the forums or I get a Joomla screen that days "You are currently logged into a private area of this site."

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have gotten that too before, then I redid it and it would say you have wrong user name, password or invalid user name. Grrrrrr
