I'm just wondering how I should handle the integration.  I'm thinking of moving to vB for my forum needs, so I ask all of you, what should my process be?

I have an existing site for my phpbb forum.  That's running off mySQL under the DB forums.  I just installed joomla 1.0.9 on that same mysql server with the DB name of joomla.  my end result is to get joomla and vB together, kind of like Gamespots setup. (I understand they use a proprietary system, I just want to get close.  And no, my site isn't a gaming site, I just like the layout there, if not the colour chpices).
