[BETA] Joomla-PHPBB standalone bridge
Hey everyone,
Pffff after hours and hours writing codes and not understand the errors i made becouse i am a complete PHP and MYSQL noob, i finally did it. With help of Alycad and Shimon who created the mambo-PHPBB bridge code and made it better, i made a code addition that makes the 2 software product work even closer together.
What are the features of the bridge?
- Register in Joomla, it will be added to database of PHPBB.
- Lost password function in Joomla also changes PHPBB account.
- Changing password or profile data in Joomla will change them to in PHPBB.
- More to come soon.
In the near future i will add more functions, and try to create a complete package, in the mean while let me know what you think of this English manual, there will also be a guide to do a PHPPBB-Joomla bridge.
Read the manual:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~mr4/phpbb/Joomlat ... bridge.htm
Community builder
I am a tster for Community Builder RC2, and will create a plugin for this, it will be ready soon....
Regards,
Martijn de Jong

Re: [BETA] Joomla-PHPBB standalone bridge
you can download it either from joomlapolis.com under downloads and then BETA... or you can download it from http://developer.joomla.org/sf/projects/phpbb_connector
Note: that this bridge/connector is a Community Builder (CB) plugin.. so it also requires you to have CB installed.

CB is at http://www.joomlapolis.com
on the README... what do you mean you can't read it? There should be a DOC and PDF version in the ZIP... If you can't read either of those (i.e. don't have word, open office, or the free acrobat reader) then let me know and I can make a text file (in English)...

Re: [BETA] Joomla-PHPBB standalone bridge
There is a README.DOC file in the zip that has some directions.
It installs the same as any other Community Builder (CB) plugin... To install the plugin simply go through Community Builder - Plugin Managment and near the middle to bottom area is a place to select the file to install and an install button... (also very similar to Joomla's install procedure)
If you need more directions then let me know... In the next release we hope to add more to the README.DOC file.
Thanks,
Greg

Re: [BETA] Joomla-PHPBB standalone bridge
That's my hangup, it doesn't appear that it is.
Now I'm trying to figure out how to install either phpBB or SMF to get them into the same db as joomla. But I don't know how to do that in such a way as to guarantee that they will use the same db.
If anyone can help with that, it would be great. If not, I'm sure I'll figure it out with enough poking around.

Re: [BETA] Joomla-PHPBB standalone bridge
If you don't remember the database that Joomla is installed into then you can go into the admin side and look at the system configuration menu.
Then ftp your phpbb files into a subdirectory of your main site (default for connector is 'forum' but can be changed)
Then install phpBB as normal and when installing make sure to enter the same host and database for phpBB as you have for Joomla.
If you have some automated script to install phpBB then I don't know how to tell as it would depend on the script.
Hope this helps,
Greg

Re: [BETA] Joomla-PHPBB standalone bridge
That's the point I have reached now but I'm going to have to fiddle with the install settings to make sure I get the database info correct.
The install I just tried took my info and installed phpbb2 into the joom1 db but would not permit me to log in. So deleted and am trying again.
:edit: phpbb2 is really starting to piss me off.
