Pirated Templates

Post by magellan_software » Sat Sep 22, 2007 4:28 am

I have seen a lot of site samples in Site Showcase sub-forum and I noticed that there are many templates which are considered commercial. I just wonder are the templates really coming from the commercial sites itself or pirated sites. I already reported some sites and these are being taken care of the commercial sites itself. To report sites using pirated template you may use the CONTACT link of that commercial site and please include the link.

Examples:

1. http://www.templateplazza.com --> click the CONTACT US button and report the site who are using pirated template
2. http://eshop.webrevolution.org --> click the CONTA US button and report the site who are using pirated template
    Samples of webrevolution --> http://eshop.webrevolution.org/index.ph ... ory_id=172
3. http://www.joomlart.com --> read this
4. http://www.rockettheme.com --> use this link.
Other commercial sites, use the same format. You can also report commercial extensions with their respective owner.

Just a word of advice, you can not say its a pirate if you really are just assuming. First of all, rockettheme offers developers membership, that means you can use any templates to any website you create. So just basically it. Before I report magellan, just be sure you know what you're doing. Anyway, goodluck!

Actually thats the main reason why web developers signed as a member to a commercial template/extension site. To use a commercial templates/extensions to their customers. So there's no problem on that. Commercial sites are doing their counter measures for checking of these sites. So if lets say I reported one site that is using a pirated template then I am assuming that commercial site has a database of those domain who are using their templates. So what if I am wrong then I am wrong. Web developers should not bother about pirated stuff as long as they're using legal (not pirated) commercial templates/extensions.  :pop

So I am assuming here that you also using RT Templates to your customers. But viewing your two updated sites it seems its the other way around. Not unless you are also a member of TemplatePlazza and you bought Magnificus separately.

u can submit sites that i created to those template clubs for verification purposes. u must be keen in the different templates released by these vendors and i look at with admiration  :-* that u r very concerned about piracy. well thats great. but in some other ways (i think  ???) pirated templates and extensions can be a means of underground commercialization. that is u download these templates or extensions and then u study them on how they are function or being programmed and when u done these things and hopefully u can get a customer then that's the time u already have an idea on what templates and extensions (including commercials) r u going to used or recommend. if these are commercial templates or extensions then that's the time u'l buy these items and put it into production or live site.

on the other hand, i dont recommend posting of illegal sites in this forum  :D

Bring down the cost of software and let software manufacturers agree to open source editing and customization of their code by their users.  Maraming namimirata kasi mahal ang mga software in this case sa Templates.

Masama ba talagang mamirata?

If you are member of any Template Clubs, you'll know more of this. One year membership is very cheap as compared to other commercial CMS selling commercial Templates.

I am not a paranoid of open source. And I am not a programmer of Microsoft. My point is you should respect those who are selling commercial software especially if you are getting some profit from that pirated templates.

Are you schooled in a license that says "you are not allowed to do the following;
copy except for backup,
reverse engineer is prohibited and liable under the whatever piracy law that is.
can't distribute (hey! I got it!) except pay per license.
our codes are original,
you can't read them,
but believe us they are unique,
we develop them ourselves without copying the others.
(we used k instead of v) the result is just the same.
We named it Z -- cool ha?
But my point is...
what part of the Template Commercial Agreement  that the pinoy joomla users have disrespected?
Can you please give us a screen shot of that agreement so we can compare it to the GNU-GPL.

One more I am not sure if this will help
Are those commercialized templates followed the Joomla! GNU-GPL License?
on whose power bestowed upon those commercialized templates licensing agreement that we have to follow instead of GNU-GPL?
Because you said so?
Are we swimming in the same water?
Do you believe in GNU-GPL?
if you don't then you don't belong here.
Find somewhere else-- go and develop a real proprietary software without bowing down to the GNU-GPL and from that day on, you can go and just start accusing everyone about pirated templates. That word for your information is taboo in the land of GNU-GPL.

Choice of name magellan_software. Cool!
But welcome to our world.
Our history.
Magellan is part of our Pinoy history.
I could pretend I forgot about it but as I said...part of our History.
Everybody knows about Magellan.
Here is the story.
That was the early of 1521, magellan the explorer "kuno" with his crew came to our Island. To make the story short. The battle began! Our forefathers massacred and killed the new arrivals and beheaded Magellan. Hey, it was war time you know.
Lapu-Lapu the barbarian with his bands of savages claimed the responsibility of that great battle. you can order a copy of this movie from our stores.

Lesson:
Next time? If you want to do a business, please use an appropriate nick. Yap, I know it was lame. What is in the nick. But hey, you are associated with the name you are using. Ikaw si Magellan_Software kami naman ang maisog, matapang, palaban, matawag sang mga ambungan uyamot -- gabahag nga mga LapuLapu, may Kris ang pikas kamot og uzzziii sa pikas.

Sorry to butt-in.

I'm just a new member here and I'm trying to join the Joomla Filipino translation team.

I'm not a Joomla user (yet) but a GNU/Linux enthusiast.

I've been to several open source forum and this is my first time to see a posting on anti-piracy,  a very unusual on a forum like this.

As I've mentioned above, I'm newbie regarding Joomla but I assumed Joomla templates are plain text/ASCII files. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My questions is, under what license Joomla templates are published?

Joomla is license under GPL. It is not a good idea to piggyback a closed source or proprietary software on top of a GPL'ed software.

In open source world, the business model is that you sell services NOT source code.

It is an interesting point, but there is no way to really tell.

I know that both RocketTheme and TemplatePlazza don't really have any mechanism to register which site your using their templates on.
