Hi ep98, support site url can be found on my signature, which in fact you already visited.
Joomlaportal.fi is the Finnish support site for all Joomla! related issues.

Language files are available here as well:
http://forge.joomla.org/sf/go/projects. ... innish_1_0

There is a UTF-8 version for 1.0.10 but not for later versions. However I'm sure you can create one if you need it.

Best,

- Markku

For friend of mine, I dont have yet any Finish clients, even dont have any relations with Finland, just wanna help him to get with things about Joomla easier, he is not computer professional, or even expirienced Internet user. He is just... how to say it, a gamer, which is interested in CMS (and specialy Joomla, as recommended).

Here will be a bit mess for him, but I will send him to this forums.

BTW, even him cant locate the language files on yours JoomlaPortal.fi

OK, you better direct your friend to Joomlaportal.fi then.

Language files are available from Joomportal.fi here:
http://www.joomlaportal.fi/component/op ... Itemid,26/

or from JoomaForge:
http://forge.joomla.org/sf/go/projects. ... innish_1_0

Link to Finnish language files is available also from extensions.joomla.org
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

Damn... I should learn at least common suomi words, such as downloads, language, components, modules, bots, plugins and templates, to show which folder what for have to be used

Thanks again.

p.s. BUG in 1.0.10 UTF-8 files, they're translated in UTF-8 and encoded as UTF-8 which is wrong eg. unreadable by Joomla! 1.0.xx and most CMS this days. They must be in ANSI with UTF-8 without BOM (Byte of Mark). UTF-8 encoded files gives blank pages everywhere, no matter which core is used (from latest stable distributions).

Nope, the encoding for Finnish Joomla! 1.0.x language files is always iso-8859-1. We don't use UTF-8 versions for Joomla! 1.0.x. The only one UTF-8 version I was referring to was special case. It was requested by third party developer and converted according his wishes.

Joomla! 1.5 Finnish language files are naturally UTF-8 without BOM.

the referred version 1.0.10 is UTF8 encoded....
anyway is there a problem if Finish 1.0.12 ISO8859-1 is used on site with UTF-8 prepared base and core of 1.0.12 ?

How will affect the COPY & PASTE from example CP1251 content to UTF-8 prepared environment, or from ISO8859-1 to this mix of encodings ?

True, but that was special case (requested by 3rd party dev), we don't use UTF-8 encoded language files with Joomla! 1.0.x.

Yes, language file must be UTF-8 encoded.

Unfortunately I haven't tried that so I really can't say.

Yes, language file must be encoded to UTF-8.
Nothing personal, but u have to try it.

Open include/database.php, locate line 102, and remove the comments, so must look like this:

Code: Select all

mysql_query("SET NAMES 'utf8'", $this->_resource);
Go to MySQL administration, create a database, with tables utf8_general_ci (at least to get RSS 2.0 operational, and exporting/modifying database without problems).
Go to /language/english.php change the line ISO8859-1 to UTF-8, and install Joomla 1.0.12 in English, with default English, and default locale en_GB.
Then install Joomfish 1.7 and activate 1.0.10 UTF8 Encoded files as 1, and English (default, but changed to UTF-8) as 0. Save, go to front page, and click Finish. - Blank page.
Joomla! 1.5 Finnish language files are naturally UTF-8 without BOM.
This should work without problems, cos the the files remains in ANSI, 1.0.10 are not....

Have to try and see what will happens with this mix of encoding, UTF-8 and ISO8859-1

Great articles, almost the same as what I know ...

Can u convert 1.0.12 Finish Joomla ISO8859-1 to UTF-8 without BOM (Byte of Mark), just in case, and to do not force my team to do this task again, to translate something already translated, just for the encoding ?

Thanks in advance.

Much better, Thanks.
For unmaintained finish translations send me a message, I will re-activate in the middle of February GTLT - http://sourceforge.net/projects/gtlt - international volunteers translation group. For sure I will look later for more 3PD Finish components translations.

What do you mean by unmaintained translations? As an official translation partner we already maintain all the 3pd component translations.

For components like commercial Hot Property, GPLed VirtueMart, MamboBoard (at least is more stable then JB), Remository 3.40 etc. (unmaintained - eg. not up to date).

Is there a easy tool, to convert from Suomi ISO8859-1 to UTF-8, or I have to ask u for each component ?

Thanks in advance

We add new and updated translations of 3pd components to our downloads section frequently. I'm not aware of a tool to convert ISO8859-1 to UTF-8. If you need UTF-8 versions of language files, I guess your best bet is to convert them yourself.

But I'm using in both environments Windows and Gentoo, CP1251 as default char set, and some Suomi symbols comes as:

Code: Select all

/** modules/mod_stats.php */
DEFINE('_TIME_STAT','Aika');
DEFINE('_MEMBERS_STAT','Jдseniд');
DEFINE('_HITS_STAT','Osumia');
DEFINE('_NEWS_STAT','Uutisia');
DEFINE('_LINKS_STAT','Linkkejд');
DEFINE('_VISITORS','Vierailijoita');
Specially _LINKS_STAT and MEMBERS_STAT which are unacceptable, Finish do not use Cyrillic symbols in their alphabet
If there is no such tool, to convert from ISO to UTF-8, without messing "special" suomi symbols, have to teach him, how to convert existing translations....
