SQL Error listing

I get this error:

MySQL server has gone away SQL=UPDATE jos_mt_cats SET cat_links = (cat_links + ABS(1)) WHERE cat_id IN (2282

Unable to create a listing, returns above error. have tried numerous times no success past 3 hours.
