Unpublished ext msg: "This site is down for maintenance"

Post by NathanHawks » Mon Mar 02, 2015 7:52 pm

When an extension is unpublished, the final line displayed in the content area is:

This site is down for maintenance.

As seen:
2015-03-02-jed-extdownformaintenance.png
JED, however, is fine.

This string seems misplaced and misleading for this specific page. The page indicates an extension is down for (possible) maintenance (or perhaps permanently, time will tell). Rather than try to generalize the string, perhaps it can be omitted on error pages being generated specifically for an unpublished extension?

Hi Nathan,

I passed this on to the JED team. In response they said:

"That's not a system message. That extension was unpublished because the site it points to is offline and whoever unpublished it put that in the reason field. Just a coincidence."

Cheers,

Actually I can confirm that by comparing to another extension which was just famously unpublished -- but, while we are on the subject:

http://extensions.joomla.org/extension/ ... ia/[youtube]

(The url above will work when you remove the brackets.)

PE1 (see link above; PE1 is currently the error code for why [youtube] Plugin is unpublished), is not a valid error code, according to:

http://extensions.joomla.org/support/kn ... rror-codes

My extension is also unpublished by unknown JED member who mentions that it is encrypted. However it is not encrypted and is around for about 7 years. I have opened a ticket 3 days ago and nobody responds.

I'm sad.

There is a back log of tickets. I know the JED team was working overtime to catch the tickets up. Please be patient.

Any idea how long it will take? I'm waiting a week now. So a week ago JED team had time to unpublish it.

Thanks!

Not to speak for the JED team, but protecting users is always emergency priority. If they think your code was harmful, that obviously needs a response instantly. Not everything can be responded-to instantly.

I would suspect that you will be helped at a speed appropriate for how much you are paying them for the listing and review service :) Since devs obviously pay zero, that probably means nobody is paying them. So I stand corrected actually... they will probably do the work AMAZINGLY FAST considering how much they are being paid.

Just trying to add some realistic perspective.

I'm also providing free software and free support. But the issue my extension got unpublished for is just a mistake by a JED member who have misread information and is not because of harmful code. I believe that the guys who unpublish the extensions are not the same who publish them.

I'm sure that there are many people around who are ready to help Joomla, so why not to call them for help and make the support better?

They don't have infinite people.

There are almost 10,000 extensions in the JED and the platform was just relaunched. Perhaps you would like to apply to become a member of the JED staff, in order to help them answer tickets?

Anyway, threadjacking isn't going to help -- nobody's expecting a thread with the title above, to contain a problem report from an extension author.

I'm not trying to make you feel worse but the reality is just not something you can argue with. If I were you I would be doing everything I could in order to prove them _right_ so that you can be on the same page as their discovery. Another alternative is to accuse them of lying, which I would be willing to bet, won't help you.

PM me a link to the specific download. Barring any unforeseen issues, I would be happy to look at a typical sized extension seeking obfuscated code, and to say whether I found any. Maybe also talk to me about your hosting arrangement. We can post things on pastebin and each write one-liner reports in the comments headers. It may make the relevant staff's work go more quickly, when they get to you.

Thanks for your help. I'm sure I do not have encrypted code. The thing is a couple of years ago my extension was unpublished for the same reason. Now I guess there is a new JED member who just did not read it accordingly and did the same mistake. I have free version and Pro version. The free version is listed on JED the Pro is not. The Pro version has encrypted content and the JED member who unpublished it, send me a link to documentation for the Pro version (probably someone reported it). So this is definitely a mistake. I'm just unhappy with the support, since they have time to unpublish it, but do not have time to look at the tickets, so sad.

Thanks!
