Scam at Joomla! Extensions Directory?

Post by X-Bit » Wed Sep 02, 2015 12:43 am

I write this post, hoping to reach some Joomla involved people at the right places and to warn that there is, apparently, a scam extension in the Extensions Directory.

We used to use the extension BlogPing Pro (http://extensions.joomla.org/extension/blogping-pro) at our old Joomla 2.5 site and we had been looking for it during the update process to Joomla! 3.x. At the JED this extension states as Joomla! 3 compatible, with version 2.6 updated on January 19, 2015.
Image

Clicking on the download button links to a site http://www.stilero.com which states that another extension, called AutoFBook, would only be compatible with Joomla! 2.5. There is no other word about compatibility of the component in question, BlogPing Pro. See http://www.stilero.com/view-membership- ... pport.html for more information.
Image

We bought this extension through Pay Pal and, after logging in, we weren’t able to find the advertised 2.6 version but only a 2.4 version dated June 29, 2012(!) which, obviously, is not J! 3 compatible. There is no other version for download.
Image

We immediately opened a ticket (2015-08-31 23:05:28) claiming that the product we bought does not appear on their download site and claimed to receive it during the next 24 hours. Otherwise we will open dispute on Pay Pal.

We did not receive any response until now.

It would be advised to not buy this extension and review the remaining at JED. It is obviously a scam.

I am sure your post would reach the desired audience in this forum section - http://forum.joomla.org/viewforum.php?f=262. There have been similar complaints in the past, I believe the developers got de-listed completely from JED. Post this in that section and see what answers you get. Good luck and thank you for letting everybody know!
Best Regards,
Claudia A.

Thanks toivo and Claudia_A, I wasn't sure where to post... and no, the extension is still active in JED!

Thanks Brian! I used JED so many years an never used this function. I found it and reported the extension, hopefully it will take another ~10 years for using it the next time.

Following up:

I have unpublished their listing "Blogping Pro" and sent an email to the developer giving them a chance to correct these issues. Once they have corrected the file to make it compatible to Joomla 3 I will republish them.

Also replied and closed out your support ticket :)

I don't understand, doesn't it say it's compatible with 2.5?
