Reporting a developer

Post by Joolie » Sat Aug 19, 2023 3:55 pm

Not sure where to post this; thought this might be the most relevant place.

I purchased a flipbook extension a while back for my portfolio site. I worked on my site for a bit and took a bit of a break, and when I went back to it, the flipbooks I created weren't working. At first I thought it might be my popup extension but the developer told me it was the flipbook extension and guided me to the developer tools in Edge.

The flipbook extension caused a bazillion errors.

I emailed the developer and it seems he's completely ignoring me. I haven't heard a peep from him in two days; Anyone worth anything would have sent an "I'll look into it" email but I got nothing. It looks like he took my money and ran.

I'm giving him a bit more time to respond, but if he doesn't I'd like to report him and his extension. People shouldn't be paying for this piece of garbage that isn't backed up by support.

Any info would be appreciated.

If the extension is listed in JED then hit the report button

Couple of observations:
1. Since is a commercial extension, according to JED ToS the volunteers there can't make much: the case is considered commercial dispute, and we (the volunteers) can not interfere.
2. Reporting an extension helps ONLY when ToS and the Guidelines for Extensions are violated. (wrong licensing scheme, broken links, etc, it is an interesting list). You can find these in JED's Knowledge-base here. https://extensions.joomla.org/support/knowledgebase/
3. We recommend for the buyers in these case to use the Review button instead the Report. That generally helps solving the issue - but at least alerts the other community members to avoid the misbehaving authors and extensions with flaws. Nobody wants a negative review, so the author has a choice: fix or sink.
We are a community here - and using the Reviews button helps strengthen this community. Use it - and not only when you are upset, extremely pleased or asked by some author to do a favor to him ;)
