The Terms of Service regarding the Joomla! Extensions Directory (JED), can be found here.

If any of the Terms of Service are changed, you can find them in replies below this thread. We are not obligated to post updates here.

This can be discussed in the following discussion thread.

With the latest update to JED, we also have more ways to detect if people abuse the system in one way or the other. The following rules were already in place:

  • It is not allowed for a any person to solely rate an extension to artificially inflate the rating or vote count.
  • It is not allowed for the same person to have more than one account on the Joomla! Extensions Directory.
  • It is not allowed for an extension developer to give negative votes to other extensions who are in competion for rating ranks, or to submit votes to extensions which offer similar functionality.

As of this week, the following rule has been added:

  • If above three rules are broken by an extension developer who has extensions on the Joomla! Extensions Directory, all extensions owned by the developer will be unpublished from the Joomla! Extensions Directory for a time set by the Joomla! Extensions Editors (starting from one month to inifinity).

This rule will start when I push the 'Post' button. All offenses done in the past will not be fully taken into account. They will be dealth with, the person responsible will get a warning with a link to the last rule.

Today we added a few new rules to the Extensions Directory, dealing specifically with extensions that are taken over by another person.

Extensions and forks
An extension that is derived from another extension will only be listed under the following conditions:
* The original extension license allows this, or the current developer of the original extension has specifically authorized it if the license doesn't.
* The extension is renamed, so it's clear that this is a separate project.
* A new versioning scheme, so it's clear that this is a separate project.
* Extension will be actively developed on.

If the original extension is listed on the Joomla! Extensions Directory:
* It will only be allowed when the extension has been changed by adding new functionality.
* Development of the extension follows it's own path, and will not be based on the original extension after listing.

Promoting Your Extension Listing
This is an exception to the above rules on review soliciting. Developers may promote their listing by using the following text:
"If you use [EXTENSION NAME], please post a rating and a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory."
[EXTENSION NAME] is to be replaced with the name of the developer's extension and the text may be linked to the listing on the Joomla! Extensions Directory.
To ensure fairness and accuracy in votes and reviews, deviation from this text is not allowed.

Extensions that goes from Non-Commercial to Commercial
Users tend to vote and review non commercial extensions more favorably. To make that the voting and reviews reflect the right type, all votes and reviews will be removed prior the change.

Extensions and Forks:
The fork will only be considered for listing if the original extension has been listed for more than 3 months.

(Note: As per various discussions on this in the past couple months.)
