JED Back-End Extension in iFrame

Post by mc007 » Fri Dec 09, 2011 11:24 am

Hi,

given the lifetime of PHP and its other trade-offs, we really don't want and can't use it on a bigger scale. Please don't get it wrong ;-)

Our idea is to go head with our Java + JS approach and build a thin Joomla extension around, running it in an iFrame. Are such extensions allow for JED submissions ? The resulting JED interface app goes as GPL and really bridges only our tech to Joomla users.

None of components on our side are in any way violating GPL nor touching Joomla's PHP of course in this case.

regards,g

well, i studied the JED rulez again, there is nothing about this particular case. Luckily there is jCook to wrap the iframe app quickly. Or is PHP really a requirement for the whole extension ? Would be very sad if so.

In any case, I will let you know here how it goes with JED approval.

To the best of my knowledge, there's no rule against that approach, however I'm not a JED editor (any more) so don't take my word for it.

There isn't a rule, however let's say I use your extension and want to make some modifications to the part inside the iframe? How would I do that?

Kind regards,
Nick
