I was looking for an extension to easily add the Google Analytics tracking code to my Joomla site. It turns out that there are 41 (!) extensions for this very simple functionality! And then I already left out the one that add a little extra (virtuemart ecommerce tracking, registered member tracking). Most of them haven't been updated in a very long time and some even use a module to perform this task instead of a plugin as it should be.

Here's the list:


I think most of them (if not all apart from 1) should be removed because it's causing a lot of confusion for me. And maybe it's an idea to include it in Joomla! core because it seems a lot of people need this.

from what i can see, as the JED doesnt work on a first come first served basis...

Well that's the point, they all do exactly the same. They add the google analytics code above the closing HEAD tag, no different flavors nothing special. There are some that add some extra functionality but I didn't add those to the list.

But maybe it's possible to create a special category for these kind of plugins? Because there are other sorts of extensions in this category but they are hard to spot between all those simple plugins.
