I understand that moderating 10,000 + extensions is a very hard work and it requires community involvement. Therefore, I will be reporting some violations that I've found, but I have the following questions regarding valid practices:

1. Is it valid to distribute ioncubed TRIAL versions?

2. Is it valid to restrict GPL freedoms to redistribute?

I am very happy that the JED team defends the GPL so hard, sometimes this an unpopular work, but I think you do a great job.

Thanks in advance for any comments and my sincere congratulations!

Hi,

I don't know the details of your concerns, but better use the report button for the listings rather than the forums.

Btw. I don't like to ioncube sources, but as long as you provide the sourcecode, it _might_ be fine. Think of all the Linux distributions that ship with compiled code. They are still GPL but the sources can be either downloaded from their websites or from within the package manager that the distribution is using. I don't know how strict the JED is handling this but it's not forbidden according to the GPL as long as you provide the sources.

Regards,
Markus

Correct. The JED Team will only take action if a report is filed via the Report link on the page of the extension in question.

The JED will not list extensions that use encryption, however there are some devs that have a commercial listing but offer a encrypted trial version. As long as the version listed is not encrypted it's OK.

Thank you both, Markus and natselection, for take the time to answer my newbie question.

I understand that I'm reporting nothing here, that no action from the JED team will be taken based in this post and I apology if this bothers somebody, but I want to know what should I report instead of be guessing.

Please don't forget question #2.

sivipu - from what i read it appears they are talking about their support membership - they are not actually restricting distribution of the product.
