Banning extensions with hidden backlinks?

Post by Jurian » Thu Aug 29, 2013 12:27 pm

How about changing the JED policy to ban extensions which use hidden backlinks in stead of just showing a warning? It's IMHO a very nasty practise which often happens without informing the end users. This could result in Google penalties or even being banned from Google.

I agree. If the extension developer requires recompense for their work then they should charge for it. Paying a few pounds/dollars/euros for a quality extension is far more preferable to a sneaky back link.

I am relatively new to Joomla, but I made my first site on 1.7 almost two years ago. Recently, my host informed me that it had removed malware (general terms i guess) but it turned out to be hidden backlinks from an extension. I too agree that they should be banned. I know SEO is a big animal, but understand that banklinks can hurt SEPR.
