New extension starting from an existing one

Post by nsfetcu » Sat May 30, 2015 2:34 am

Hello,

I changed an existing extensions with GPLv2 license to fit to my needs. It is much more simple than the existing one and with another destination.

I kept an aknowledgement about the original extension.

Can I upload it in the extension directory to share it with other users? Or I have to ask permission to use it and share it from the developer of the existing extension?

I think it would be good form to contact the original developer, but I see no reason not to submit the extension as I believe their protocol in part is designed to make sure you are compliant with the license.
Don't HACK the Joomla! core, Instead "Extend" and/or "Override."
Stay ON the update path.

Thank you ranwilli, you are right, better to contact the original developer.
