JED returns bad results.

Post by victor92z » Sat Feb 04, 2023 3:05 am

Hello,
Looks like the JED Finder is not working properly (https://extensions.joomla.org/instant-search/). I tried with a few keywords but the results returned were not as expected

Please give us one or two examples because a quick test shows that the search finds relevant extensions all right.

Hi,
I tried with "easysocial" but no result. Please watch my video: https://www.[youtube].com/watch?v=[spam a4n]_paZCQY

Thanks!

The video link gets mangled by the spam filter of the forum.

You are right. The JED search does not find 'easysocial' or 'easy social' at all, which is strange. As if the extension has disappeared, which is not the case at all.

If you search 'easysocial' in Google or Bing, both the home page of the extension and its JED entry are listed in the top three hits.

The error may come from the search service algolia.com/
I hope the JED Team will fix this bug soon. Thanks!

It is discussed in JED internal forum already. Hopefully will end up with a resolution. Algolia integration is quaking, the only sure thing I can tell right now.

It is known for a long time that the algolia search is not working very well.
Also the way it sorts the returned results does not seem to be fair.

@webgobe would like to be part of that forum if possible. Already attended some meetings about the new JED.

I passed the request to our team leader. The forum is for JED members only, can't add you directly. But search in Mattermost the groups named Operations Department Extensions Directory Discussions and Operations Department Extensions Directory 4 and ask for access - we are always in need of new manpower :) You are welcome to join!

JED Search is now working again. Something wiped the algolia storage down to 256 entries. I have run an update and there are now 6,500 entries. Please do let me know if anyone finds any missing.
Thanks

Thank you, @mfleeson! After your reply EasySocial, the extension that was missing from search results and started this topic, came up all right but right now it has again disappeared.

Many other extensions pop up correctly in the AJAX search but there are exceptions like OSMap that brings up HikaShop!
