it is scrambled with a one-way scramble function called MD5.

You'd better insert a new standard "admin" password, hold on....

You can use phpMyAdmin to view & edit the mos_users table?

insert
21232f297a57a5a743894a0e4a801fc3
in the password field of the admin user.

it's the md5 result of the standard password "admin".

Hello!

This sounds all good to me but I am afraid I don't know where in Joomla database I can find the place to enter this information???

Could anyone help me out a little? I am not sure how/where to find where to instert this? A short "step by step" would be most appreciated.

Thank you,

Passage

Hi,

Just go to your cpanel and find pypmyadmin, databasetool. Connect to your joomla database and find the table "jos_users". Use the explore function on this table, you will find the first record for the admin account. Now use the edit function on that record, edit the password field. Save it and you are done.

I advice to make a backup before you do this.

That worked spankingly good. I was just afraid of screwing things up in the admin part, so just needed to know that I was doing the absolute correct thing there. And it seems like I did just so now.... Whoopppie. Chaning now to a password I can actually remember... :-)

Thank you very much!!

Hi,

@ argash; what is your exact issue? different posters in here, so just making sure  ;) Give as much info as possible and I might be able to help. Explain the warning/error/issue, what you are doing, when it appears. Thanks.

Just some short info - I am using Joomla 1.5 and it is a fresh install - I have input the password during installation, however when I have tried it later on it wasn't working then I tried to reset it.

Cheers,
Aretai

I can't figure it out. I've gone to my phpmyadmin but I guess I don't know what I'm doing. I found the password...how do you edit it? Also, where do you back up everything? Here's a screenshot of where I'm at:

Here is a site where you can create the md5 hash of the password you want to use via the phpmyadmin panel when changing a password.

http://md5-hash-online.waraxe.us/

You simply type in the password you want to use and it will generate a md5 password that you can copy and paste into the password field.

(The above is just one of many md5 hash generators that you can find simply by Googling md5...)

Since I posted this request , my host GoDaddy has helped me to input a new password. Thank you I will go and check this out.......but

Now they are telling me to find the Joomla database connection string. They had me copy and paste a file that I am holding on note pad. I don't know where to go. I'm very hesitant to cut and paste anything.

Thanks Karen
