Redirection Hacked onto my site

Post by pernich » Wed Nov 02, 2011 10:08 am

Hello,

I run a old version of joomla for a band I play with. I believe it has been hacked into, and now redirects to a dodgy site. A friend has managed to localise the redirection code in the HTML on the main page (like the home page) - and I need to delete it, but I cannot figure out where and if I can do this. I've looked in all different parts of joomla administrator and can't see it.

Does anyone know how I can edit the HTML script for the main page so I can get rid of this redirection?

Thankyou.

PS. I am pretty much computer illiterate - I just maintain the site, so as simple as can be would be excellent :)

Sorry old chap but it doesn't work like that. If you've been hacked it probably means there is more than one simple redirect and to be certain the site is clean you have to restore the site from backup. Read this:

If you were computer literate I would say something like this: Ask your host to scan the site and send you a report, download the site to a local PC and scan it with several a/v tools. Scan the extenison list and see what vulnerable extensions your site is running. When you know how the hack was achieved then

Find a backup and restore it on a secure CMS specific host. Tighten security on the site in every way you can. Don't store passwords on your PC unless they are encrypted, avoid using ftp tools like filezilla that store passwords in plain text.

Finally - get computer literate!

I know my computer skills are not fantastic - I just took on the job of updating the website. I really have no idea about anything! Haha. I think I may have to get someone else to look into it because I have no clue who even hosts it. LOL. Ta :)
