Joomla 1.5 will run under an FTP layer which will allow you to set user it runs under...

But as of right now (J1.0X) any files created by Joomla are actually created by PHP and owned by the Webserver account since that is what PHP runs under...

You can try using SUEXEC to get what you want..
Have PHP run under the account you want it to use

No? Thanks will look into that I am  actually using the Joomla explorer " com_ " is that the same thing? If it is I don't think it will resolve the issue of the owner as it ony does chmod.

Exactly what I want to do, so as to ensure some security at that level and also avoid issues with sandboxed sites that only have FTP user  permissions. Looks like I may have to wait for 1.5 or script something to effect what I want - thanks very much for the info.

Exactly what I want to do - so as to effect a different layer of security and allow for sandbox FTP sites to work as the FTP user - looks like I wait for 1.5 or so some scripting. Thanks for all your help
