Email address obfuscation

Post by svandena » Mon Mar 06, 2006 7:23 pm

Just starting out in Joomla! and loving it.  But was unable to find a good answer to this in searching through the FAQs and other sources, so hence...my first post.

Is there a way to use an email obfuscator within Joomla?  Bottom line...I don't want any email addresses out in the open for the spambots to pick up on.

Joomla! has an built in email obfusticator that will automatically work on all emails it finds in content items.

It is the mosemailcloak core mambot

mosemailcloak=off

Post by whw » Mon Jul 24, 2006 2:40 am

In a previous $ambo version, it was possible to disable mosemailcloak within specific content by adding {mosemailcloak=off} to that content.  I used this on a couple of sites that have PayPal buttons within the content.

I just upgraded one of those sites to Joomla 1.0.10.  Many components were also upgraded. Everything's working beautifully EXCEPT --sadly-- the {mosemailcloak=off} solution no longer works.

My customer uses PayPal for selling products and for event registrations.  mosemailcloak makes it impossible to use any current content which has PayPal buttons and forms.

Stingrey - please help!  Is there a workaround that will give the same results as {mosemailcloak=off} ?

Thanks!

HELP - mosemailcloak seems to be missing

Post by spinfx » Thu Aug 03, 2006 2:58 am

Hi Rey

We've upgraded gradually from mambo 4.5.2 to Joomla 1.0.10 as we have been migrating content from our static HTML site to Joomla and somewhere along the way, we have lost access to mosemailcloak.

Both the php and xml files are in the content folder of mambots, but the bot does not display in the mambots list in the backend.
Is there some way to make it show up? Can it be reinstalled by itself? If so, do you have the bot available as an installable file?

We are almost ready to launch our huge Joomla Site (Shayne says it's the biggest he's ever seen) so please help as we have many email addresses all through the site.

Cheers, David

Simply install as per normal mambot and then ensure that you have 'published' the newly installed bot.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I had exactly the same problem and I solved my problem not by looking at the mosemailcloak bot but by changing the PayPal code. In order to display a PayPal button you don't need to provide your email address. In your Paypal account you should get the "encrypted code" which you can place in your code. This is something like:
Since this is no email address, the cloak bot doesn't disturb it  :P

1.0.11 will now feature the ability to selectively disable the `Email Cloaking` bot by adding {emailcloak=off} to an item.
