The index page of my Joomla site has slowed considerably, takes about 10 seconds to load. Every other page loads quickly.

My hosting company it has something to do with SSL turned on.

Anyone have any idea how to turn SSL off or what this may mean?

i would suggest using the search function, as this topic is a top hitter..

also i would say this has nothing to do with joomla or enabled ssl function... i would say this is a misconfigured webserver...
or u might get cracked and some code has insertet into your site, what i t makes slow. like spam or other crap.

so check this first
