I've been having some problems with the administrative backend lately.

I'm running Joomla 1.0.8 (havent upgraded/migrated, always had the full version of 1.0.8)

The problem started about a week ago. Everything has been fine (about 2 months) and I havent done any changes to the server.

The problem is when I try to see/add content. When I want to edit/add content I can see the header and the "Preview, Upload, Save, Apply, Close, Help" buttons immediately, but its the rest that takes ages to load (up to 5 minutes).

I have no problems browsing the main site. Its as fast as it always have been. When browsing the administrative backend its a little slower, but adding/edit the content is the real problem.

I checked if i had the mambot called mamforge (found some threads about it when searching on the subject), but I don't have that, so that cant be the problem.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm on a shared server, so I can't unfortunately run commands to benchmark and things like that, but like I said. No changes has been made to the server (i've checked with my webhost). It suddenly fell apart.

There is a recently discovered performance issue that affects all versions of Joomla! that can lead to very slow loading of the Content Items edit page.

The problem occurs when you have a large number of images in the /images/ folder.  It is nothing to do with the size of images, rather with the quantity of images stored in that folder.

This is the only open issue that I am aware of that affects load performance in the 1.0.8 backend related to the content item page

Hmm, it has to be something else than, because I store all pictures on another server (and only installed one template).

Thanks anyway :)

Drop us another line if you happen to track down the problem

After each time that I do some work in administration, I notice that my daily log file contains many and many more  entries of administration images loading.
Depending on what one works in, there are many and many more downloaded and more lines appearing in the log file.
I know they are small png image files but nevertheless, culling these out would certainly help I would think.
Maybe people like these images, it uses for one every link, no matter what but, who needs them.

Sorry what images are you referring to Chris?

All the images that are in administrator/images and are used when in the administrator (backup).

I have the same exact problem but now my joomla freezes and my browser crashes whenever I try to add a new content. What should I do with all my images?

Hey guys,

Just wanna say thank you for the information / clarification in this thread!
This has just solved 14 days of constant problems on my site...!

Apparently I've unknowingly passed the "magic limit" of pics in my folder a couple of weeks ago, and this problem has been driving me mad.
But this changed it all, and my backend is now as smooth as ever again! ... That's great!

Thanx a bunch!
;)
