I read the other thread and I believe the criticism is right. Tonight we had a premiere for our site and when the counter started showing 100+ guests online the server started to become seriously sluggish. At 150 guests the server stopped responding and this is really, really bad. Apache started consuming 45 - 60 % at peaks but the CPU load wasnt that bad. A peak every 5 seconds and between that only 5 - 8% cpuload. But still the site was unresponsive.  >:(

The server? Well, a brand new P4 3.0 with 1 GB ram running Debian and MySQL. Cant see why the server should be at fault.

EDIT: Some misspelling

Details of your setup would be helpful.
I am sure the core team would like to see some logs so we hope you saved them.

Well the httplog doesnt say much, if it did I might have a clue what to do. Please dont mistake this for flaming or ill willed posting. Im actually at my wits end and Im upset that it dont work as planned. I really like working with Mambo and have not had any problems before.   :'(

Mambo 4.5.2
MySQL Ver 14.7 Distrib 4.1.11, for pc-linux-gnu (i386)

What else would you like to know?

EDIT: Error log says nada. Some way old mysql_close() errors.

Mats,
Have you dealt with yor host on this issue? http://www.joomla.org runs just fine, with perhaps far more traffic than you are getting.  Joomla is just a piece of software that may require your server to be 'tweaked' to optimize it's performance.

Hey man.. Ive actually fixed this.. Got my load time down to .035-.03 sec range (Milliseconds!)

CPU load for loading site is at 1.0 and below.. Stresstested.. Ill post the solution later.. Its rather complex but requires Apache tuning.

Update: All logs have been thouroughly checked and nothing seems to be wrong and no one knows why the server stopped responding. The only thing that remains is tuning Apache. MySQL was tuned from scratch but Apache was supposed to be able to handle the load out of the box.

We'll try again.  :(

Are you running SEF?
Did you check mysql for slow quiries?

I had a similar problem with mambohut before and i had to do a lot of MySQL tweaking to get it back on track.

It could be a component or a module that is running too many queries or a query that is simply too long.

You can check these files (/etc/my-small.cnf , /etc/my-medium.cnf, /etc/my-large.cnf) on your server for the recommended setting for small/mediam/large servers

Also you can enable MySQL built-in cache
