Manual Install instructions

Post by daveallen » Sat Dec 24, 2005 10:59 am

I have looked at the manual install guide is out of date and wrong in parts.

Other forum entries seem to offer half an answer.

Mambo was a breeze to install, having changed server for security reasons has led me to manually installing Joomla 104 is a totally different can of worms.

When is the manual install guide going to be updated to reflect 105

Please help and the many people are forced to manually install Joomla.

Dave,

http://help.joomla.org/content/view/40/132/

Is there any examples you can give us regarding the 'wrong parts.'  This install guide was pulled from the old Mambo help docs.  Let us know what we are missing or what is incorrect and we can try to fix it.  Also, if you want to go over the document and do some revising, post your revisions here and I will be glad to update them.  Feel free to let us know any other corrections that can be made on any other help docs.

I have been trying to do a manual install for a week. The main problem seem to be importing the joomla.sql file. It is missing some data. The manual install instructions state:

Edit the file sql/mambo.sql and uncomment the very last 6 lines of the file starting:

INSERT INTO `mos_users` VALUES (62, 'Administrator'

These lines are not present in the joomla.sql file. When looking at the database tables no users are installed nor are there any sessions installed. This causes errors when browsing to the site.

The configuration.php-dist has a warning about changing the prefix from jos_ but the joomla.sql file has all prefix's set to #_.

I need to know what needs to be were and how to insert this data.

Thank you.

Thanks for helping out with this Krauth,

Since I am not a pro at this, let me try to get a dev to help you out maybe in the next couple days.  I will direct them towards this thread.  Post any other questions in the meantime.

Thank you again.

It might be a good idea to include a manual install sql file in the /installation/sql directory that is setup with a default admin and password and the prefix set to jos_ I think this would stop this problem.

Would need to change the manual installation instructions to referance this file instead of the joomla.sql file. ;)

Manual Installation

Post by daveallen » Thu Jan 19, 2006 12:22 pm

Over 100,000 have downloaded the manual installation documents

We've gone from version 1.0 to 1.07

Yet we don't have a correct manual install document.

When is the manual installion guide going to be upgraded?

We are turning off potential Joomla users :(

I am still wondering what you want changed and updated Dave.  If you know what has changed or if you are having problems with this installation guide, please let us know the specifics.  We also at this time do not have a lot of volunteers helping with the updating and proofing of docs.  If you would like to help out or volunteer to revise this doc, or any docs, let us know.

I to want it updated.

The document still speaks of mambo.sql and the lines

Code: Select all

Edit the file sql/mambo.sql and uncomment the very last 6 lines of the file starting:

INSERT INTO `mos_users` VALUES (62, 'Administrator'

Import the SQL into your newly created database, from the sql/joomla.sql text file, for example:

mysql -uroot -ppassword joomla_database_name < sql/joomla.sql
don't apply to the new joomla.sql (the very last 6 lines don't read that what you need to uncomment) and I can't find an appropiate alternative (don't know what to uncomment now).

I need this for a client, I am a fanatic Joomla! user but never tried it on a server with safe mode on. This needs to be fixed, I would do it myself if I knew how.
