I've bumped into a few people lately who have not noticed the register/login link on docs. Would you consider making a more prominent link (but still above the fold) so it's easier for newcomers to find?

Interesting. Of the roughly 700 new registrations on the wiki we get each month, around 30% are spammers, but of the remaining 70% (almost 500 per month), only a tiny handful ever make any changes to the documentation. I'm also regularly fielding questions from people asking why, having registered on the wiki, they can't post a message on the forum, despite a prominent message on the wiki explaining that they are completely separate. This suggests to me that the register/login link is a bit *too* easy to find. ;)

Anyway, I believe Ron is working on a new MediaWiki template design to match our other revamped sites. Not sure where the register/login link will end up, but that's something to feed back into his design process.

Chris.

Until we either are using openid or ldap we are always going to get those questions; I know the Jed editors get them too and probably joomlacode.

It does make you wonder though, what if it was as easy to see for humans as for spambots? Figure you expect in general that maybe 5 percent of people who register will actually do anything. Increase the base, increase the contributions. It's true though, more people does mean more management.
