Database structure

Post by pdemaers » Tue Apr 25, 2006 10:55 am

Hi,

is there any document showing the full Joomla database structure ? I guess I can install Joomla and do an export of the table creation scripts via MySQL, but I was hoping something more complete exists already, maybe with some explanatory notes for the tables and fields ?

Thanks,

Patrick

Hey guys, I moved this over to your realm as I am guessing that you guys have more understanding of the database tables and fields.

Torkil has documented v 1.5

I posted a diagram of v 1.0 that I found somewhere some time ago here:

There are only minor changes between the two releases.

Thanks!

Hi,

yes, the diagram is indeed fantastic !! Made me look into dbdesigner (currently known as mysql workbench) and install it myself.

I was just wondering if a graphical representation is enough as documentation. Would a text based document with detailed description of each table, field, primary and foreign key not be more flexible ? If this is something the documentation team would like to consider, I would me more then happy to offer some of my time to get involved.

Kind regards,

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Yes, we would certainly consider a contribution along the lines you suggested.  At the moment we are pretty focussed on getting the 1.5 API documented and so database issues are taking a bit of a back seat. :'(  Perhaps you could put together a sample of what you have in mind and submit it here: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/board,287.0.htmll then we can see how we might integrate it with the existing docs.  I'm thinking maybe one page per table, plus some overview pages, but maybe you have other ideas.  Is this something you could do on your own, or would you need others to assist?

Regards,
Chris.
