documentation of core_acl_aro_groups

I am trying to understand what kind of information the core_acl_aro_groups table is supposed to represent.
I understand that the id and parent_id specifies a tree structure but I wonder what lft and rgt are?

I could not find a documentation for the whole table but I fount what's lft and rgt

The lft and rgt fields are used for ordering, and are not linked to the ID's.
