How is it possible that there is no user group that allows users to publish their own articles... without giving them the ability to edit everyone elses articles at the same time!

This absurd oversight is making this otherwise great CMS absolutely freaking useless. First of all, whats the point of hard-coded user groups? Just set up a list of possible permissions and let us apply these different permissions to different groups. I don't see how this was released not once... but in two different versions with this absolutely ridiculous and absurd oversight. Does anyone have a fix?

I want to be able to give users that I trust the ability to publish their own articles - but do so without giving them the ability to edit every article on the webpage. How is it possible that this CMS has survived without this ability?

Thats because users of the group "Author" only have access to edit their own articles.

Obviously.

But how do I get a group that is allowed to publish their own articles without giving them the ability to edit everyone elses articles?

I mean seriously, how is that not an option?

In trying to figure out how to change each user groups permissions (which I'm beginning to think I can't...) I realized that nobody can publish their own articles without being able to edit everyone elses.

Huge oversight.

Is there a mod that will correct this?

There is a custom hack that you can do to achieve this.

It's going to be implimented into 1.6, but until then you have to hack Joomla yourself.

See The_Real_Svempa's posts on page 2 and 3 for how he did it, I'm currently writing this into my site as well.

*note - don't post in that thread asking for help, master_chief wants us to take it elsewhere.*

My problem, now that I have restricted Authors to submitting, but not publishing, their own articles, is how to restrict Authors from publishing their own weblinks. Right now, when an author submits an article, I have to release it to publication, which is how I want it to be. But when an author submits a weblink, they are given control over the decision whether or not to publish it themselves.

I don't want users to post their own weblinks without my being involved in the decision to publish them.
