My question, is there a way to convert old templates to the new version.
and if so is it automated way or is should be done manually.

old templates for the 1.0.x generation will work on the 1.5 version of Joomla!

Hi I was trying to install template form joomla 1.0 to 1.5 and first i got response "Direct Access to this location is not allowed". I changed first line with '_VALID_MOS' to '_JEXEC'. But then I received errors with nonexistent functions  - mosshowhead(), mosloadmodules().

What do I need to include to make this template compatible with Joomla 1.5?

Did you enable legacy mode in the configuration of 1.5? This is needed for 'old' templates/components to work.

Thank you Tonie, I changed value $legacy to 1 in configuration.php and template is working, now with only one thing value $mosConfig_absolute_path is empty when I use relative path every thing is OK.

I now this has not been posted, but just for completeness:
One should not hack the configurationfile, but use the admin frontend global config screen of 1.5 to set the "legacy" mode.
This interface is there to be used!
