I'm new at Joomla.  I want to install a component (Community builder).  The instructions say go to Components then install/uninstall.  When I go to the components menu at the top of the admin panel it just list the installed components.  Under Extensions there is an install/uninstall.  When I go there I browse to find the comprofiler.zip file and hit upload file and install.  It goes to a blank window and stops I don't see the component being installed.  What am I doing wrong?

Keep in mind I am using wamp as a localhost to try things out until I get the hang of Joomla.

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you install the Legacy plugin? You find this under Extensions/Plugin Manager/ On the Plugin Manager page go to the 2nd page and halfway down you find the Legacy plugin. Cllick on Publish and after do the install of CB again.

I had that installed.  I tried to republish it but I have the same issue.  I hit upload/install and it goes to a blank screen.  The status bar says waiting on localhost and then says done.

I figured out the problem.  The maximum memory size in my php.ini file was 8Mb.  I changed it to 32Mb and all is well.

Thanks for the help.  I hope this helps others in the future

If you are still referring to the Legacy plugin, this is how you do this:

First download the latest build/svn
In admin, go to Extensions en click on Plugin manager.
You get in the Plugin page and you go to the second page.
Half way this page there is something called: System - legacy. That is the Legcay plugin.
Click on publish and the Lagacy plugin is installed.

Let me know if this worked.

Thank you so much. It worked fine and now seem like it's published. btw. Why is this plug in necessary in Joomla 1.5 and what is the primary function of this? I am veryyy new to this. I have seen people recommending to turn this plug in on but no one seem to explain why to turn it on.

Ok, Sophie.
Strangely enough I fail to see why you want to turn something without knowing why?
The Legacy plugin is neede if you want to use Components or extensions for Joomla created before version 1.5. So a component created for Joomla 1.0.11 or 1.0.12 would not not run under vserion 1.5. Thats why there is a Legacy plugin.

If you do not use those components, there is no need to switch on the plugin.

Pete, you are 110% right. I totally agree with you. Without knowing what a thing actually is turning it ON does show lack of information on my part. I admit I am very slow and dumb when it comes to understand new things. :(

But now I know...why is that and it also answer my other problem. When I downloaded that clock extension module, it was not working even though it said it was upgraded for the version 1.5 and I uploaded it through FTP and try to install it browsing down the install/uninstall and it was simply not there and I was like where did my clock go?  :P

Some people learn or understand quickly others do take a bit more time but it is never dumb  ;)
Glad it worked out.
