I think it would be a good idea to remove (or change to a class) the id="current" attribute from being rendered with a menu.  The problem is that if you have two of the same menu on a page, the HTML won't validate because you have 2 id tags that have the same name (current).

I don't know about anybody else, but I usually add two menus to the same page - one for the main menu and one in the footer.  It wouldn't be such a big deal if it was easy to change the mod_mainmenu template but unfortunately the code is in the helper.php file.

It's not that hard to remove or change it if need be. But maybe it would be a good idea to change "current" to a class instead.

Yeah, it's definitely easy to change.  I just don't want to change any core files.  It would be nice if at the very least, I could override it with a template file but I think it be best if we could just change it to a class instead.

Agreed. A class certainly makes much more sense.
