im making a component with some friends, and i noticed that we are working on 1.0.8, then version 1.1 is about to come out. in a month we;ll probablly be done, would everything probably be backwards compatible with the new version?  would there probably be a lot of recoding to do in case that happens?

Quite a lot of recoding, I guess.
See the Framework, API here: http://dev.joomla.org/content/view/1137/80/

yes, it seems like that. hmmm, im really mulling over having our guys start doing it for 1.1 instead.  and when the stable version comes out, we should be ok, less coding. problem is, no set date except Q1 for that release...

1.1 is set to maintain 80-90% backwards compatibility.  There should be only minor recording as although the framework has been rebuilt, the legacy classes are still there...  You would still want to update your component to take advantage of the new API, of course, but you at least have some time to do the majority of it when 1.1 comes out.

Please don't say something 'isn't working'. Explain what you tried, and what happened as a result.

Is there a link containing info on the legacy classes? I'm looking to create a 1.0.8 and 1.1 (1.5) compatable component and for reference purposes I only see a partial wiki and api framework for 1.1 (1.5), nothing for 1.0.x?

wiki: http://dev.joomla.org/component/option, ... Itemid,32/
api: http://api.joomla.org/

Assuming the 1.1 (1.5) documents are currently being updating, thanks to hackwar for posting this info.. 1.0.x documentation can be found at help.joomla.org.

Quote:
Documentation for 1.0.x can be found on help.joomla.org, the complete API for 1.1 is available on dev.joomla.org.
