Creating new usergroups

Hi,

Has anyone tried to create custom usergroups for the back-end administration section?

I stumbled upon this page for the front-end users: http://docs.joomla.org/Custom_user_groups.

Has anyone tried that code? Does it actually work? Can i modify it for the back-end as well?

I'm thinking that joomla has been out for too long for people to not have thought about creating custom user groups. If anyone can throw me a rope here, i will be really grateful.
