Guess I must be getting old or something...

All public webservers are running PHP 4.3.10.
Intranet servers are mostly running Redhat 9 with PHP 4.2.2.  Since they never fail they never get upgraded  :)  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.  Just yesterday I cobbled together a machine for testing and put Fedora Core 4 on it.  This has PHP 5.0.x (no trace of PHP 4).

As reported here: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,52436.0.html Joomla! 1.5 already appears to have a 4.3.0 minimum requirement, so it looks like I'm gonna have to do some upgrade work when 1.5 ships. :'(

Regards,
Chris.

Chris, there are a few quite serious bugs and security leaks in php version before 4.3.11.
That alone would probably be reason enough to update

Hi Adam,

Our intranet servers are heavily firewalled so keeping OS's up-to-date on them is not a high-priority (and from experience is more trouble than it's worth).  However, I have no objection to the minimum requirement for Joomla! 1.5 being raised to 4.3.whatever.

I'll drop a line to our hosting company about the public webserver versions.  Thanks for the heads-up.

Regards,
Chris.

4.4.2 all around.

Regarding the question of changing the minimum requirement, I say do it!  Taking a look at the poll so far (and noting that two of the votes for "< 4.3" have been mistakes (see previous posts), I doubt it would cause much of a stir.  As far as changes in minimum requirements go, it would be tame compared to what Moodle is doing for their soon-to-be-released Moodle 1.6: requiring MySQL 4.1.16 or higher.

We use security patched versions of PHP 5.1.2 on both devel and production servers.

It's always the same problem. Script maintainers won't upgrade their scripts because there is not enough webhosts using PHP 5 and webhosts won't upgrade to PHP 5 because it breaks scripts... :-\

Thanks all for you feedback ! Based on the percentages we can safely put the minimum requirements for Joomla! 1.5 on PHP 4.3.
