Joomla meeting in Melb sounds great I would certainly come along and I think a few other colleagues would come as well

Not sure what we all want to do or numbers attending but 3 quick ideas for a venue (just to stimulate discussion) are

Horse Bazaar digital bar in the city is geek friendly, serves drinks  and has free net access but could be noisy/smoky later  as  people come for after work drinks

I'd recommend the Horse Bazaar, and as said, it can get noisy / smoky later. I had a pretty good experience there last night with Melbourne Massive.

Shayne, I will arrive in Perth on january 15, and leave on the 25th. I have a rental car and should be in your hometown somewhere in the middle.

Unfortunately no. Linda was tasked with choosing most of the spots to visit. I spent nearly a year in Australia, and the only place I haven't seen back then is the west. As always, holidays are too short.

I thought I just replied to this but it doesn't seem to have come up?

I'm keen - I'm just a newbie but trying to build two seperate sites at the same time so am interested in networking with other joomla-ers and learning about the world of joomla in general.

City is good option and flexible with dates.

Methinks we need to work on a social networking app on the level of WD06 Connections / barcamping if we do this more often..

Brad

You got any idea of what dates you're going to be around in Melbourne yet?

Will come along as well - but not the 26th please.  Am currently working on a new Joomla site for a charitable organisation, so would like to share experiences or find a mentor!

Regards

Trevor

Hey Brad,

How about you pick the date that best suits you as you are the out-of-towner and making the effort to come see us....

( bl***y foreigners coming down here, hope he's got a valid passport and visa :p    teehehehee )

As previously mentioned, late arvo, early evening would actually be best for me, but any of the mentioned dates is good.

Hi all,

the date is confirmed 24th of Jan, right?

Are you going to make it more a community meeting event, or are you intenting to do presentations and classes like the events in Europe? I'm just asking to may be provide you with some info material which you might be able to use.

Someone was setting up a website? If yes which URL? (http://www.joomladay.org.au ?)

Thx for the feedback - looking forward seeing your pictures and news

Alex

OK... I'm down! (count me in)
I mentioned to Brad about this a while ago and am glad to be a part of helping in some way.
The city is a good venue to catch up but there are some really nice parts of St.Kilda (right on the beach) which would be great too.
The time of day is yet another thing. It's been mentioned that 3pm might be good. Well, 24th, 25th, and 26th are Wed, Thurs and Friday. It might be a little difficult for people to get away from work if they want to attend.
How would people feel about making it early evening? Say 6pm?

Cheers,
aRJAy

Initially, I figured it was just an informal get-together, seeing as Brad was coming to Melbourne, good chance to meet and greet type thing.

Unless Brad had other idea's?

Whilst on topic of locations, Belgian Beer gardens on St Kilda road are nice: http://www.belgianbeercafemelbourne.com/Beer_Garden.asp

Just thought might be easier to talk at places like this unlike most city pubs.

No, that was Brad's idea ;)
Happy to do a brief presentation on a few things.. but all in all, this is planned as an informal Joomla meetup to hopefully get the Joomladay concept rolling here in Australia in the future in a bigger way.

I'm afraid I'll be unable to attend. Some professional/personaly issues have unfortunately had to take precidence.

If there is any possibility of a skype hookup I could come in that way for a bit, I know at least a couple of people have issue's they would like to discuss and I'm more than happy to make myself available to do so.

Cheers
Shayne
