Hello,

I have the privilege of attending the CeBit Expo held in Sydney, Australia on May 1-3, 2007. (http://www.cebit.com.au/)

There will be an Open Source conference as well at this expo (http://www.opencebit.com.au/)

I would like to volunteer to represent Joomla at this event. We are going as guests of our solutions partner and we will be working in their booth promoting integration of joomla with their solution. There are 2 of us going, and we feel confident enough to talk to folks about setting up Joomla sites, hosting, design issues etc.

Even without a stand, we could do heaps of networking/promoting on foot.

Let me know what I need to do or what materials from Joomla I could take (and maybe some Joomla shirts.. ;) would be good)

Regards
Mark E

Mark, can you provide more details please? Who is your solutions partner? Which booth are you working in?

Hi Brad
I have sent you a private message with the details. Got all inspired from the Melbourne, Australia Joomla Day so maybe I can help out.

Hi Mark,

I split the topic for this one as I really think it would be cool that we could organize presenting Joomla! there. I will get in touch with you and the people of OpenCebit and see what we can do. As soon as I know some more details I'll get back to you.

Thx for the hint

Alex

Hi Alex

Great to see how fast we can get stuff done! (Thanks Brad) I am sure we can rally the troops in Sydney to come and be a force at the event. Even if we just all wear Joomla shirts and coordinate from a coffee shop, we can still spread the word particularly if we all hang out in the Open Source area (they have a dedicated OS section)

IMPORTANT: Register online by March 15th and you can attend for FREE! Go to this link to register:

https://www.mycebit.com.au/registration/expo.php

After March 15th its $25, at the door its $60 so dont delay

I will put some posts in other Sydney related posts to direct folks to this discussion and see what we can do.

Cool beans

Hi Dinah

Havent heard anything back from Alex yet. I put a second call to the CeBit regarding the possibility of a booth. In the meantime, if you want to go, register now for free tickets. If you can get as many Sydney Joomla folks as possible it will be good.

Cheers

Post subject:  Re: OpenCebit AU, 2007

Hi all,

we tried to find a booth and itis extremely expensive. That's why we need to drop this event. The event seems to be focused on solutions like Red Hat, IBM and other commercial parties. They are not offering a .org village as far as we found out.

I can say that we will try to organize a Joomla!Day in Sydney soon - I think we better support this instead of giving the money to other people.

Cheers

Post subject:  Re: OpenCebit AU, 2007

Alex,

Ok. I have been starting to organise a Sydney Joomla Day - I kicked off the Sydney Joomla! user group with this in mind. Anyway, I sketched in a date for April 19th, but if it's more effective to have it when CeBit is on then that's fine.
Otherwise, let's keep going with April.
What do you think?

Post subject:  Re: OpenCebit AU, 2007

Hi Dinah,

I can't really suggest a date. It might be that during the CeBit your rooms are quite expensive. In that case I would suggest a different date. If you can find a suitable room for a good price we should go with this date as you will attract even more people.

Alex

PS: Could you please open a new thread in the "community events sub-forum"? I think there it is more easy to keep things together.

Hi All

Just an update to confirm we will definitely have a Joomla! booth at Sydney CeBit May 1-3. We will be there to educate and inform folks about Joomla! and considering there will be around 25,000 people there, I expect it to be pretty hectic.

Since I have all the necessary contracts, paperwork etc please contact me if you wish to attend and help out. Even though the booth is small, I am sure we will need breaks so we dont get to worn out.

I have also been asked to speak in the Open Source Conference http://www.opencebit.com.au/component/o ... /Itemid,1/
and I am a little nervous about sharing the stage with IBM, SugarCRM, Mozilla and the like but its an awesome opportunity to show off Joomla!

Let me know if you wish to attend and help out :)

Great news.

I think you should really make a big point that cebit is using Joomla for 30+ of their own websites. CAnt get a better endorsement than that

Hi Alex

Yes..I am speaking after Jacob from SugarCRM. The schedule is here: http://www.opencebit.com.au/content/view/28/51/
but they havent posted my name or profile yet. Will get onto them about that tomorrow.

This is one blurb I sent CeBit:
Joomla! is an Open Source Content Management System (CMS) that allows users to install, edit and control their website content. By integrating some 1500 available plug-in extensions, applications for e-commerce, inventory, accounting and more can be realized. Learn how the Open Source community, developers and website owners leverage their efforts to create and service new market segments using Joomla!

This is the second:
Joomla! is a free, Open Source, Content Management System (CMS) which enables users to control their website content. See Joomla! in action and watch as we edit websites in real-time. Ask about connecting Joomla! with e-commerce, online accounting and marketing tools for a fully integrated solution. Get your copy of Joomla! on CD from our booth today-FREE.

Cheers
Mark

Just a correction about the free tickets: you needed to pre-register by April 24th to get the free ticket.

If you register now online before the show starts, it costs only $25. If you wait and pay at the door its $60.

Register here to attend: https://www.mycebit.com.au/registration/expo.php

The Joomla booth is booth#: P1 in the Open Source pavillion. Stop by and say hi!! We would love to meet and connect with Joomla users.

Post subject:  Joomla! at CeBit has kicked off!!

Hi All

Quick update on Joomla! at CeBit. I arrived in Sydney on Sunday and Ben and I went straight to CeBit to check out the Joomla booth. Its in an awesome position! The showfloor is organized into pavillions or sections and we are in the OpenCeBit (Open Source) pavillion. What I didnt know is.. this section and our booth are positioned at the main front entrances, and we are going to catch a LOT of foot traffic. An unnamed source told me, he assisted in the floor design and placed Open Source where it is on purpose to raise the awareness for this show...and the Joomla booth is benefiting from that intention! (wow)

IBM has a booth in Open Source as do some others. Early in the show I will be letting the other exhibitors know Joomla! is here and where to point people for OS-CMS issues, since we will be the only OS-CMS exhibiting.....nice :)

Ok, I will post updates as we go...

If a moderator or someone can tell me where to post pics and a blog about this ...let me know..

Cheers

Hey all,

I thought I would give you all an update on what has been happening at the joomla booth at cebit this year.

The joomla booth has been a great success, the amount of people who has said "Wow I want to hug you!", you guys are great" is overwheling. Andrew, Mark, Roybn and I have been keeping the joomla booth, going, handing out constant cd's, information packs, and tutorials on how to use joomla.

We have had 1 speaking session so far, which drew in a great crowd, when then flocked to the joomla booth afterwards. The response has been rewarding and all of the people we have talked to have been interesting in joomla, or already loving the open source joomla project.

We currently have one more speech on joomla which resides today in the open source conference. We have had some pictures taken by the media, and media representitives have been talking with the booth on a regular basis.

If you would like to find out more about the show, you can visit http://www.bloggerzone.com.au I have seen a few previous posts about joomla there so far.

Well back to the booth, to spread the word, and tell people about joomla.
