I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in helping me put together a Joomla! Day in Irvine, CA? I was thinking we can do it in October.

Hi all,

Last year we had a Joomla!Day in Mountain View and also participated on the Linux World Expo in SFO. There is a first plan for a Joomla!Day in SFO in August again. May be this can become a combined effort?

Just a thought

Alex

I'm definitely interested. I'm out in the Inland Empire, but am in Orange County almost every week (Angels and Ducks season ticket holder).

Hi everyone,

I'm the events coordinator for Joomla!Day events in the US, and I'd be happy to help out with your organizing needs. It would be great if the event could target the greater LA area, since I know there's a lot of terrific Joomla developers and users there.

If someone would like to step up and begin leading the effort on the local level, I'm happy to help guide you through the process of getting your event officially sanctioned and provide guidance to get started.

Just private message me if interested...

Best,
Ryan

I'd be very interested in helping coordinate and certainly attend a Joomla Day here in SoCal (greater LA). Is there any traction on this yet? Has someone started?

Doesn't look like I'm going to be able to go. I have 3 websites, along with a April release date for a software project I'm involved with, to take care off all around the first week of April. On top of that I have the opening week of the MLB season to keep me busy also.

I'm still interested in the LA/OC/SoCal Joomla Day though!

Santa Monica would be a prime location, so close to LAX, everyone could just fly in.

Michael,

I totally agree that a westside LA event would be great. I don't think it's going to be too difficult to organize an event down there in LA, especially near both LAX and the multimedia scene. However, I do know that some folks are also interested in an event in the Inland Empire. I think we might get a bigger draw in the west LA area though.

More to come...from all those interested!

Cheers,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

for sure a bigger draw in west LA.

how big of draw is too big?

it could turn into a mega event.

Michael,

Good point, and I think we can do a hunt for a venue (I'm thinking I might have some strings to pull at my alma mater) that could help a lot. If we can get a venue to hold up to 200 people, I think we'd be set.

Best,
Ryan

Is anyone still thinking about helping put together a Joomla event in Socal? I'm going to a 2-day Drupal event next week (in Irvine) and think that we could easily get good attendance for a Joomla event here. I know a lot of planning and setup needs to go into this. I would really like to see this happen and am ready to work with other people interested in putting this together.

Next time you are in SoCal, and you have any Joomla questions, feel free to contact me via PM!

So should we start a working group to pull this together? We have should have the potential to make one here.

I'm up for this provided there are enough people to help plan.

edit: Just remembered there is a J!Day Irvine thread: viewtopic.php?f=306&t=305903 which is somewhat related.
