Alongside the Sydney JoomlaDay on 19th May 2008....

..... Drupal User Group have invited us to stage a Joomla vv Drupal head-to-head competition, in the style of http://www.fullcodepress.com. The idea is two teams of 7 people build a functional web site for two selected charities in 24 hours. No pre-preparation.

Drupal are kinda geared up for it, so this is an appeal for Joomla guns :geek: to step up and show 'em how it's done! >:D

Are you a Joomla expert in Sydney in May? Volunteer now! But you gotta stay up all night - it's a 24 hour comp - noon to noon lockdown. We need:
    project manager
    graphic designer
    HTML/CSS coder
    usability expert
    content writer/producer
    programmer
    one other unsepcified

Along with the Sydney JoomlaDay on 19th May 2008, we are also running a bunch of other stuff, including an exhibition booth, presentations at CeBIT exhibition theatre and at the Open Source Conference. Plenty of other opportunities to shine and promote yourself and Joomla.

Time to get ready for business!

Will be interested in seeing this team form. Whatever we can do to help you prepare - and following the event - let us know.

This will be a fun event and it is good to put the spotlight on two fabulous open source CMS's. Who can lose using Drupal or Joomla!. (Plus, it's a good opportunity to let the blue drops know that JSheriff is in town. :D ).

Thanks, Dex, keep us posted!
Amy :)

No, it did not happen. :(

If I remember correctly, the Drupal group ended up not holding their event at CeBIT. Don't know the details as to why. I believe there was talk about trying to do so again, later.

I have mixed feelings on the competitive stuff. (Since it's so obvious we are better! ;) ). Honestly, tho, both are awesome projects and excellent software solutions. I look to Drupal, many times, to see how they handle things in their applications and with their community. Nothing but respect.

The serious interest in this would be on the level of problem solving. Supposing you have developer teams of about equal competence. What would they do when faced with the same task and different tools that can be deployed at rather different paces (in some cases) but deliver results (design and functionality) of varying quality requiring compensatory measures in areas where each system is weak?

It would be about the creative process, and to a lesser extent the software.

Yes, it finally happened and it was a blast! Steve Fisher will present the community's entry at the SxSW event in Texas one week from tomorrow. Arno will present it for UK Joomla! Day participants and Steve for the LV Joomla! Day attendees this month.

We are working hard to get it ready for download. Regardless of which project "wins" in Texas, we know this software will be used by the Joomla! community.

More from the team blog...

Amy, Is there a set date/venue for the sharing of your team's SXSW entry as a "model" for Joomla design process and end result?
