In response to the RFP for the Global Joomla Events, we're putting together a proposal to run an event in Melbourne Australia.

We'd like to certainly make the trip worth while for those coming in from all over the globe, so we're looking at:
    4-5 Days of Conference Activities
    Keynotes from Joomla luminaries
General & Extension Specific Workshop Program
"Trade Show" for Extension Developers to network with their Users
    User Networking Events
Time out activities around Melbourne & Tours to things around Victoria
Activities program for partners and families
World Class Shopping & Dining In Walking Distance of Venues
    Kangaroos, Koalas, Penguins and Wildlife!
Looking at November 2010, when it's summer down under and getting chilly in the North!

That's just the start!

If you do have anything that we should consider doing that might tip the scales on you coming in from overseas to spend a week or two in Australia while at the Conference, we look forward to your feedback!

Thanks, Patrick.

We also anticipate to partner up with either another relevant IT event held in Australia or one of the many major events being held between Nov 2010 to Mar 2011 in Melbourne.

This could include the Melbourne Cup in Nov (horse racing), the Australian Open in Jan (Tennis Grand Slam) or the Formular One Grand Prix in March.

Australia's bid would be a joint bid from key JoomlaDay organisers from Sydney and Melbourne, utilising Melbourne's world class conference facilities.

More details soon.
Matthias

OSDC is typically held in November/December of the year. OSDC hasn't worked out where its next event (for 2010) would be, but it is a developer/technical heavy event with reasonable backing. OSDC is presently looking for its next organising committee for the 2010 conference and the location. OSDC is technology agnostic so long as there is something related to open source (e.g. Windows/OS X/Linux/BSD whatever) is supported. OSDC has around 100 people (or more) and is a three day event.

Linux.conf.au is typically held in January of the year. Linux.conf.au announces where it is being held at its conference (18th Jan to 23rd Jan). LCA in past years has had up to a thousand people in attendance and is a five day event, two days of miniconf's and three days of tutorials/presentations.

Kangaroos, Koalas, Penguins and Wildlife!

Very cool. Of course, it's Joomla!'s Australian community - leading the way! Always have to be at least a half a day ahead of the rest of us! November 2010 sounds *good.* By that point, it's impossible for Northerners to deny Winter is heading our way. A chance to return - even briefly - to summer is tempting!

Thank you for approaching this as a Global event. I like that very much! Will help get the word out, too. Good luck with your RFP - thanks for your leadership.

Im being selfish, but I am travelling to New Zealand in early January, so late January early February would be great as I could use it as an excuse to extend my stay, whilst im already down that way.

I still think Aberystwyth, Mid Wales is the best location for a Global event though ;)

Follow @ijca2010 for updates on the plans for International Joomla Conference Australia 2010

Our submission is having the final touches added to it at the moment, with lots of exciting things planned - including nice weather for those coming from northern climbs!

We hope to have a tentative date confirmed shortly, and will then be requesting interest from potential speakers. If you're keen to come over and present at the conference, drop us a line and we'll send you more details.

Hi guys, sorry to post so late after the event, but I was wondering if there will be a future one in Melbourne.

BTW, How did the one in February go?
