French Characters in Mailto Subject

Post by silkweb » Thu May 27, 2010 9:13 pm

I have a multi-language site and my issue that I need help with is that I have "subjects" in my mailto links and the French subjects won't translate the french characters with the actual accents on them, they appear as weird characters. To make matters worse, it doesn't happen on my computer when I click the mailto link, only on my clients.

Does anyone know what I can do to make the characters appear correctly or if there is an alternate method to insert a subject or an email link?

Thanks a bunch.......S

Try running the subject through the converter at http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/html/ ... coding.htm (go down to "URL encoding converter"), that should do the trick. :-)

EDIT: Hmm, I’ve used that encoding before and it worked, but I just tried it in another browser + email client combination (Safari 4.0.5 for Mac + Mailplane) and it didn’t work. What _did_ work, however, was to use the html entities for the accented characters (and for space). Try it out and see what works for you. …and let us know what worked and what didn’t.
