Any suggestions for SE friendly hosting providers. I am actively looking for 'cheaper than godaddy's 3.95$ pm plan' but meets SE friendly requirments (passess following tests)

Quote:
If you expirience problems with SEF please make sure you tripple checked these troubleshooting steps:
1) You must run Apache
To check this go to Mambo administration > System > System Info. Server type should be listed next to Web Server. SEF will not run on IIS, so don't bother trying.
2) You must have mod_rewrite enabled
To check this go to Mambo administration > System > System Info. Click on PHP Information tab. Scroll down until you find Loaded Modules row. mod_rewrite should be listed here. If it's not ask your web host to activate mod_rewrite.
3) Your server must allow .htaccess override
To check this delete everything from your .htaccess file and write a simple command here, for example:
Code:
Redirect /google.html http://www.google.comNow point your browser to http://www.yoursite.com/google.html If it redirects you to google.com then you are OK.

I am currently trying out 3ix and I couldn't run test3# successfull so far. Godaddy works great with SEF running just fine (but its on expensive side when one has around 4-5 sites :( )

Thanks in Advance
DS

Hey, are you sure you did the htaccess correctly?

1. rename htaccess.TXT      to      .htaccess

notice the period BEFORE the file, and the deleted of the .TXT

2. You posted

Redirect /google.html http://www.google.comNow point your ...etc"

Did you mean your .htaccess file ONLY had the following within it

Redirect /google.html http://www.google.com

3. Did you modify the correct .htaccess file? You can easily find two, First one is at the ROOT when you FTP into your site, the second would be in the WWW folder (or your mambo installation.)

Try it within both folders, \ and \\WWW

Then try to type in your address http://www.indianwhatever.com/google.html

4. Double check you typed in .html for each instance, not .htm

5. Wow, really cant get it to work? You can easily host mambo sites on fuitadnet.com, with a reseller account you get cpanel and unlimited domains. I know people that pay $12/month (nothing else) and host 20+ mambo sites.

Also the guys that own that company speak fluent Indian, some better than English. And if you are creating Indian mambo sites, well hell, might just be perfect for you, lol

Cheers,
Diske52
