I've had a look through the forum, and I've seen a lot of people with exactly the opposite problem to mine, and none of the solutions seem to work. So, here's the problem: I want to have icons for some of my menu items. There's no problem getting the images to display, the problem is that ONLY the images display.

I've seen lots of people requesting ways to do this, have image-only menus, but how do you prevent it, when it happens?

I've been through every combination of flat-horiz-vertical listing and the menu parameters. Cannot fix!

Please help!

potentially relevant: I'm using a8ejoomla. also, the place where the icon should be (outside the a tag) has another image, with a hover_ prefix on the image name. The menu's text is saved as the alt tag of an image inside the a tag.

Joomla's menus don't really permit that exact function - SWMenu Free does

So it's impossible to have a menu item with an icon in straight joomla?

I thought that it was relatively easy, and getting picture-only menus was hard, but that's just judging from the queries I saw on the forum here.

Can't tell if this was a miscommunication or not, but I'm having the same problem...

All I want is a menu with text AND icons.

1.  With the module parameter "show menu icons" set to NO, I get a text-only menu, as I'd expect.
2.  When I change that parameter to YES, I get ICONS ONLY.  The text disappears.

The Joomla parameters seem straightforward, but I'm not getting the right result

Could it be a template issue?
