Hi my name is Argentus,

I'm kinda new to this stuff and I don't know if I put this topic is in the right section or even if it was posted before, if it was posted before could you please give me a link or give me the info. I did a search but didn't find anything usefull.

I have been given the task to design and implement a new Intranet for the company that I work for. I chose Joomla! because I kinda worked with it in the past only then it was known as Mambo. The intranet which I'm designing has to have certain aspects implemented and that is to be able to view forms and queries of Oracle and MS Access databases. I know that Joomla! only supports MYSQL but still could there be a way or some kind of loophole which could enable me to to still view the contents of the forms/queries of the Oracle and MS Access database or is it better to use another CMS, maybe commercial?

All relevant info is very appreciated thank you.

I am sure there is, but in the next version 1.1 there should be support for all databases!

Check out the roadmap: http://www.joomla.org/content/view/14/28/

If you can use MySql as the underlying database for your CMS and just use the other databases for specific queries to fill forms and such, then Joomla would be a perfectly viable choice.  If what you need is an entire framework that is built for MSSQL or Oracle then you will either need to Look deeply into writing a database connector adapter for the database you need to use, or you need to look for another CMS.  Out of the box, Joomla only supports MySql for framework operations, EVEN 1.1.  But, that being said, in a custom component you could connect to anything you wanted and still use MySql and the framework for CMS logic.

Something to think about...

If Joomla is running on a IIS webserver, it should be possible to build ASP/VB pages that access data from foreign databases, then access those pages using a Joomla Wrapper link. MS Access is less of a problem because it is not a server, but MSSQL and others are and the second server would have to operate in tandem with MySQL server. You can do this by assigning the database servers to different ports.

Yes that is exactly what I want to do but I don't know how to do that. Are there any mods or tutorials about how to do that? What ever the solution is could you give some more info about how to make that happen or give me some kind of link.

Thnx
