I have a weird problem.
I can login on the frontend but when trying to log into backend i'm always redirected to the login page again.
This problem started suddenly (not related to joomla updates). The site was running well for half a year before.
Is this a problem with sessions? And can I do something about it, if i'm on shared hosting (LinuxApacheMysqlPhp)?

Info about the server:
PHP Version 4.3.4
Linux 2.6.5-7.201-smp
Mysql 4.
Apache 2.

you can login in the frontend but not in backend. This might be caused by two things: corrupt table in DB or changes to the rights

see this thread......This might help you further: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,10985.0.html and this one for background:

Thanks for your reply but there is no problem with user rights!

This problem persists not just for me but for all users/admins which should be allowed to log into backend. I don't get a error message but the loginpage (administrator/index.php) reloads after a short time loading "administrator/index2.php".

I still think the corpus delicti is in the sessions code (may it be faulty a php.ini which I can't do anything about or some other problems with php and joomla).

I just checked the mos_session table in mysql:

"username  time                  session_id                                      guest userid        usertype            gid"
"xxxx    1137403623  2d03d5536a0c9e8bfe4b5c888096ba59  1  63  Super Administrator  0"

The session table seems to be correctly initiated.

unless you mistyped:: the content of the table is correct but have you before converted from Mambo (mos_prefix)

are you capable of saving your database and make a fresh installation with Joomla v1.0.7?

Alternatively you might want to try to upload two folders and overwrite full: "Administration" and "Include" Those two are main culprits in situations like this in general
