how did you create the form?  Is this using the contact component?  or an addon component?

no the form is just an html page inside the cms and the script that processes it is a regular php script not inside the joomla cms. once the script processes it, it takes the visitor to a static thank you page.

im trying to get the visitor (who has to be logged in to see the form) to have their email automatically inserted into the form as a hidden field so that they will be emailed a copy of the form they filled out.

any ideas would be appreciated!
