Okay, so i just installed Joomla.  It was a breeze (or so i thought.)

everything is super until i log into the admin control panel.

that's at mydomain.com/administrator/

Anyway, my problem is that the menu along the top isnt working.  (Home, Site, Menu, Content, Components etc etc)

I can get it to drop down and whatever else, but every time i try to click an option, nothing happens.  Its as if there is no link.

At first i thought it was my browser, but i tried it on Firefox, IE6, and Safari.  Then i tried it on a friend's Firefox and IE6.  None of them works.

Halp!

Solved my problem! I was using the DOCman extension and it had explicit path names within the DB table of a network that the server was no longer connected to...after I removed the path names from jos_components table my Control Panel went back to normal again.

I hope this solution solves your problem if DOCman is not working for you.

Open your database and search for the tabel JOS_PLUGINS and look for the row:
(name) USER - (element) JOOMLA

In the colomn PUBLISHED you see a value. If this says 0 change this to 1 and save.
This worked for me so i'm glad i dont have to reinstall my Joomla!

Good Luck!

I suddenly had the same problem occurring on my site using Firefox (3.5.3). The administrator menus drop down correctly in IE. They drop down for other of my Joomla sites in the same Firefox browser. Thinking it may be some newly installed plugin or module. I checked the plugins but apparently no problems there. The disabling of recent modules did not effect the problem.

Apparently, I am not alone in experiencing this mysterious problem. :'(
Thanks,
Jim
PHP: 5.2.9
Joomla: 1.5.14

FOLLOW UP:
Checked on another PC and had no problem with Firefox (3.5.3) which lead me to belief that it may be some addon in the Firefox with which I am having problems. However, disabling all the addons did not address the problem... So I am still looking for a solution that require my changing to a different PC for this particular site!!! ;)

PROBLEM SOLVED:
I can explain what I did to solve my particular problem. I cannot explain why however. I had done some extensive changes to the CSS file which apparently had somethings that the particular installation of FireFox on one of my PC's did not care much for. After reverting to a previous version of the CSS file, the problem disappeared. NOTE: the css file in question is the template used for front end, not the back end. Why this should effect the backend is a question that I cannot answer. ???

I too faced such problem. It has appeared that I entered not absolutely correct URL.
I entered localhost/joomla/Administrator,
but was correct localhost/joomla/administrator
The page opened, but the menu was not accessible!
All has been established on Windows and XAMP

I have not done any CSS changes. Just using the simple rhuk_milkyway template. I have this problem using a mac and a pc. I've tried firefox and IE on the PC and firefox on the mac. I administer over 20 joomla sites. All the others are fine. The administrator drop down menus are not working. Any more Ideas? I've tried reinstalling the template using FTP on both the front end and admin template. I'm using this plugin (jsmallfib) and I have acajoom newsletter ( acajoom is on all my other sites as well )
