Modules on pages without menu link

Post by alexasc » Thu Jan 05, 2006 11:02 am

Hi

Is it possible to show modules on pages that don't have a menu item (i.e. pages that are just linked to from other pages on the site). In the parameters it seems like you can only assign modules to menu items links. I have also checked the "Unassigned" but it doesn’t seem to have any affect.

Thanks

Simple answer: no. You must have a menu link to have modules show up and that link cannot be a URL type.

More complicated answer: depending what the page is, you can do things. For example, if it is a content page you can use moslate to include a module.

I found a way to actually trick Joomla to show the modules. If I create a menu link to the page, then go to the module parameters and assign the module to that menu link, and then unpublish the menu link, the modules will appear until I "un-check" the module (even if I dont change any parameters). Not the most elegant way, but it works  :D

This is a content page, so could you explain how I use moslate to show the modules?

Thanks again

A more elegant method to trick Joomla is to create a menu that is not being used otherwise known as a blind menu.  Assign the module to that page and it will work for the other links.

Usng moslate:

I usually use the itemid:

{moslate}{module:include id=999}{/moslate}

You do have to make sure to install the right moslates, but I just installed them all so no problem. I use a few other ones here and there, including js:include.

Maybe de will post, but the problem is that moslate is a "content" mambot, so it only loads when you are using com_content (either regular content or static conent).

I spent weeks last year trying to get it to work in a different context. It really requires creating a new mambot etc. However, though I haven't used it, there is a mambot for using moslate in a module so that might provide a workaround, but I never got it to work.

Maybe de will post?
