Hi Guys,

I am fairly new to joomla and so would like your help with this problem.
I have a article in whose content i have a link which points to another article. However the article in the link is not assigned to any menu. How do i assign a different template to this linked article. Please i know how to assign a template to an article assigned to a menu but this i have no idea.

My basic idea is this...i have a site where many products are shown in an article. On clicking on these products one must be moved to the article containing that products details. However both the article containing the link to the products and the article containing a particular products details have different templates. So when i click on a product link i need to see the product detail article with another template. I hope you get it....

Please help me with this.

It MUST be a menu item to assign a template...

That doesn't mean you must DISPLAY the menu...

Make a new menu, make the article an item on the new menu, leave the new menu's module unpublished, assign the template in the usual way.

No charge extra bonus: you will also be in control of which modules are displayed on the page.

Hi Ranwill,

Thank you for the quick reply.
I tried what you said but unfortunately it is not working. I created a new menu module then assigned the a new menu with the articles required. But its not working...
What do i do??

make sure you links are pointing to the appropriate menu item (url MUST have "&Itemid=XXX" appended to it )

Hi ranwill,

This is great. It was just as you said...i had not given the "&Itemid=XXX" in the links.
Now it works like a charm. Thanks a lot.
Will be back with more probs. Thanks again.

The information below allowed me to assign a template to a specific article using only the article id number.
