I am new to Joomla and have just done a site where images are really important. I am using the newest version Joomla! 1.0.11.

I read the manual and was under the impression that when you are in the add article page and select upload image or file that would go to the hard drive where you would browse and upload the image or file. What I get when I select it is:

You are not authorized to view this resource.

I am logged in with full administration rights. I have checked image directories, stories and subdirectories are CHMOD 777 so I am lost what to try now. Really hope someone has conquered this. If a module or component is suggested let me know but really want to stay with a straight Joomla core site.

To add an image to your article or content, follow these steps:-

Sign in as administrator
Go to Media Manager
there you will find (File upload max 8M) and also the browse button >> click the button, find and select your picture
Now look on the top right icons UPLOAD click that and you will get a message when the pic is uploaded.

Now go to your content page if you are useing an editor, there will be a small icon with picture on it. click on it and you will get a new window.
Write the image path (normally /Images/filename)
Give a name for the picture and now click the tab Appearance there you can specify the size, spacing etc. when finished click Insert
and you are done.

If you dont see the editor, check your user account >> site>> user manager click your name (Administrator) there you get your details page look on your right for "User editor" and see if you any using the dropdown , if it is blank, and there is nothing you select, Go to Joomla extensions down load and install an editor (Tiny MCE, FCK) there are are few available.

If this is too complicated,

You should upload the picture in the folder /stories under images insted of in Images.
Now in the content page on your right  click the tab images select the image you need and click ">>" to include in "Content Images"
Select the image name in "Content Images" Now you will see active image, scroll down a bit, below the image you can edit a few things. Now keeping the image selected find the "Insert Image" below your content (there are 2 one for introduction and one for main)
after clicking on the place you want to insert image  click the "Insert Image" you will see a code {mosimage} added, preview the page

There you have it!!

If you use the upload button in the content editor page itself, the image is uploaded to /images/stories, sometimes you have to refresh to see the image in the list.

Normally the message "You are not authorized to view this resource" is seen only when you try to view a page (which is unpublished or is restricted) from front end.

Thank you for this, I forgot all about the media manger. Though I still can't figure our why the upload is there when you are writing or editing a picture. Have 3 sites in Joomla and they all have the error when you select that menu item.
