Remove Joomla! is Free Software...

Post by doigro » Tue Aug 15, 2006 7:38 am

I need to remove "Joomla! is Free Software released under the GNU/GPL License". and "Check for the latest version" link in the footer of the administrator area.
Does anybody knows where to look?

Actually, you go to the includes folder and in the version.php file at or around line 40, you can change the URL that leaves the message. ;)

Looks like this is an old post for an earlier version of Joomla 1.0 I found a more up to date response to this issue for Joomla 1.5

http://wzcreativetechnology.com/joomla/ ... -info.html

How to remove joomla 1.5 copyright info

How do i remove the bit on the bottom of my website that says "Powered by Joomla!. Valid XHTML and CSS."?

This also comes up when i have the "Footer" published on the website. Then i have an extra copyright that says "Joomla! is Free Software released under the GNU/GPL License."
How do I remove it?

First:

Go to the root fold Of Joomla >> languages >>en-GB/ en-GB.mod_footer.ini || modify it there.

FOOTER=Footer
FOOTER_LINE1=Copyright &#169; %date% %sitename%. All Rights Reserved.
FOOTER_LINE2=<a href="http://www.joomla.org">Joomla!</a> is Free Software released under the <a href="http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-2.0.html">GNU/GPL License.</a>
MOD_FOOTER=<em>mod_footer</em>
THIS MODULE SHOWS THE JOOMLA! COPYRIGHT INFORMATION=This Module shows the Joomla! Copyright information

Second:

Go to yourtemplate/index.php >> bottom of page || change it there.

<p id="power_by">
<?php echo JText::_('Powered by') ?> <a href="http://www.joomla.org">Joomla!</a>.
<?php echo JText::_('Valid') ?> <a href="http://validator.w3.org/check/referer">XHTML</a> <?php echo JText::_('and') ?> <a href="http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/chec ... er">CSS</a>
</p>

After that you will have your own customized copyright information.

Either way works. However, both have potential to be overwritten when upgrading Joomla! version.

To get rid of the "This is Free Software Joomla, you need to change login.php, cpanel.php, index.php and code out the Joomla image if you want to go that far. but it is all in the administrator folder under the kherpi template for modifications in 1.5.11 and previous versions

Thanks a lot for all this info. rcrescini has given the best answer. Both the steps recommended by him have been successful for me.

Thought I'd update this.

Yes, you can go into "langage->eb-GB->en-GB.mod_footer.ini" and change FOOTER_LINE1 and FOOTER_LINE2 to something else. But you have to have something and if you get rid of the file entirely something still prints.

I did this, it works, it's simple, but I'm sure doesn't eliminate the entire coding system that generates these two lines.

Go into the file "modules->mod_footer->tmpl->default.php" and comment out the line:

<div><?php echo JText::_( 'FOOTER_LINE2' ); ?></div>

In my file it's the last of 4 lines. Line 3 is the Copyright line and if you comment that out then you get rid of that.

I'm not sure if this file would be overwritten in an update thus reversing this solution and requiring it to be redone?

As a newbie I can say that Joomla is anything but easy! There's got to be a better way.

I deleted the line

<div><?php echo JText::_( 'FOOTER_LINE2' ); ?></div>

and that took care of the line on my end.

hi everybody
in newer versions like 1.5.22, to EDIT " is free software under ...", you have to edit ISFREESOFTWARE variable in following file: "en-gb.ini" in this address :
'administrator/language/en-Gb/'
(or if you have other languages too, find the correct files with same format, ie: for persian, it's administrator/language/fa-ir/fa-ir.ini),

-for changing "JOOMLA!" in the beginning of that phrase, previous posts are complete, (3 files are associated with that in several pages:login.php, cpanel.php, index.php , in this address 'administrator/templates/khepri/ ',
change joomla and its hyperlink, where there is this tag : <p class="copyright">, and ... voila, you're good to go :pop )

regards,

8) :-[ ;) :pop
where there is a will, there is a way too.
